BT digital switch off

Read our latest update from David regarding the 2025 BT digital switch off.

“Last week I was involved in a webinar from one of our suppliers about the changes that are happening now in preparation of the BT digital switch off in 2025. You might think that you have 5 years to think about it but the webinar highlighted the roadmap, timescales and new product availability.

The changes affect all line types, whether you are business or residential and if you haven’t planned for the changes in advance then you will simply lose your lines when they are switched off. This is the case for Single Lines, Multi Lines, ISDN2 & ISDN30, LLU Broadband, SMPF, SLU & MPF Broadband Services, Narrowband Line Share and Classic Products.

VOIP users also need to be aware that despite VOIP being a more modern approach to telephony, if your VOIP system runs off ADSL or FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) then you will have to change the data connection that comes into your building.

Changes will start being made to the above services in September 2023 when no new orders, modifications or changes will be allowed. So although the switch off will be in 2025, BT will effectively be starting the process in 2023. A simple fault on your line may take longer to resolve as anything that puts a strain on engineering or exchange work is likely to take longer to fix.

There are many things to consider when thinking about when and how to respond to the BT digital switch off and I would be happy to chat these through with you. Please get in touch if you are looking to start the transition sooner rather than later.”
